Sreedevi K. Nair


A Journal of Gender & Culture, works as Associate Professor of English in NSS College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Her doctoral and post doctoral research were in Translation Studies. She has translated extensively from Malayalam into English and vice-versa. She was awarded the Lalita Kala Akademy award for the Best Translator of an Art Book for her Malayalam translation of Ananda Coomaraswamy’s Introduction to Indian Art. Tales of Athiranippadam, her joint-translation with Dr. P. Radhika of Oru Desathinte Katha, won her the International Translation Grant from the International Center for Writing and Translation (ICWT), University of California, Irvine. She has translated Shakespeare, Bapsi Sidhwa, Sholom Aleichem and others into Malayalam and a host of Malayalam writers into English. She has received several Fellowships including three post-doctoral Fellowships. Women’s Writing is another major area of interest with her. Her book, Malayalathinte Ezhuthukarikal was translated into Kannada, and also into English under the title Ten Women Writers of Kerala. She did a major research project titled Women Writers of Kerala with the support of the University Grants Commission of India.

G. S. Jayasree

A Journal of Gender & Culture, is Professor and Head of the Institute of English, University of Kerala. She is also the Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies of the University. Her research interests include the study of colonial modernity and the formation of cultural identities in the wake of nationalism, with particular reference to gender. The Oxford Anthology of Malayalam Literaturethat Jayasree jointly edited with P. P. Raveendran is forthcoming from Oxford University Press. She is the founder of Women’s Initiatives, a women’s studies collective, which publishes the bi-annual journal, Samyukta.

Creative writer and translator. Writes short stories both in Malayalam and English. Former Lecturer of English at St Thomas College, Kozhecheri, she is currently working as Public Health Program Analyst for the City of Philadelphia, USA.

Prathibha K., works as Assistant Professor of Malayalam in Christian College, Kattakada. She has also worked as Research Assistant for the Sahitya Akademi project 'An Anthology of Indian Discourse on Translation'. She has published articles to her credit.

Prof. Mary Nirmala


Dr. Mary Nirmala, poet and translator was Professor of English at St. Xavier’s College, Trivandrum. After retirement, she worked as trainer in Afras Academy for Business Communication. Her published poetry collections include When the Soul Catches Fire and What the Night Told Me. Her translation, Ten Women Writers of Kerala edited by Dr. Sreedevi K. Nair appeared in 2012.

Daya J., is a freelance content writer and translator. Her translated works include Satyajit Ray’s The Anubis Mystery, and A. Revathi’s The Truth About Me: A Hijra Life Story. Her short story 'Viraamam' was selected for the Mayuri Short Story Award in 2007. The video documentary Stolen Water which she co-directed won the National Jury Award at MIFF in 2004 and 'Story Tellers', another video documentary won the second best documentary award at the SOMS video festival of 2007.
